Day 9
Door: gevanotterdijk
08 Mei 2016 | Zwitserland, Luzern
Today was an active day. As we started our day at 10 AM, we quivkly got ready for a day in the mountains. We planned on going to the Pilatus mountain near Luzern, Switzerland.
Since that was still quite far from Zürich we decided to take the train. Firstly the intercity to Luzern, followed by the train to Alpnachstad. From there we took our third and final train, the cogwheel railway, to the mountain top. The particular railway we went on is the steepest of it's kind as it has slopes of up to 48%. Due to this we were able to get some beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and villages.
When we arrived at the top we initially took some pictures, and rested a bit (train travel is some serious business you know.). Shortly after which we went looking for some nice hiking routes on/around the mountain. However, because there was still a lot of snow left at the peaks, most of those routes were inaccessible. Since we still wanted to go for a hike, we took the gondola down to a lower part of the mountain. From this starting point we hiked down back to Kriens (about 2hours). During our hike down we encountered many unusual things (A man jogging up the mountain in nothing but a pair of shorts, while surrounded by snow being the most notable.). As with most hikes, since we took occasional breaks, I really had a good time.
When we arrived back at the apartment, we barbecued the remains of Friday, which marked the end of the day.
Tomorrow will be a new day at the office, and a chance to learn something new. Knowing that school starts again, while I'm still here having fun is also kind of nice. Until tomorrow!

Frits:
Awesome 48%! Can you still call that a train? Seems to me a spectacular tour.
I am wondering about Bart´s magic. How did he get you to do a downhill hike for more than 2 hours? Was he promising a valley of pizza´s?
And to be honest; it wasn´t me jogging up that mountain :)
Have fun, hope to see you soon at the Hauptbahnhof in Düsseldorf!
regards Dad
